A man has been charged after five dogs were found dead at his home in Clarington, Ont.

Officers found the animals on Sunday in a house on Taunton Road. Police say it appears four of the five dogs had been shot.

Police seized a .308 rifle with a scope and tripod, and a crossbow. Durham Regional Police Inspector Mitch Colling said it doesn't appear the crossbow was used on the animals.

The 25-year-old suspect, whose name has not been released, has been charged with careless use of a firearm, careless storage of a firearm and four counts of injuring animals.

Police also found seven puppies and an adult husky in the home. They were taken to an animal emergency clinic in Durham Region.
