Police kill man who killed Mormon bishop

VISALIA, Calif., -- A Mormon lay bishop was gunned down at a church in California Sunday by a man who was later shot and killed by police blocks away, authorities said.
The Vandalia Times-Delta reported lay Bishop Clay Sannar, 42, was killed at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Vandalia.
The identity of the gunman was not released and church spokesman Ralph Jordan said no one in the congregation recognized him, the newspaper said.
Jordan said the man did not ask for Sannar by name, instead asking for "the president or the bishop" and then waiting patiently for a time until given the opportunity to speak to Sannar. He then went into the bishop's office and shot him.
Visalia Police Capt. Rick Haskill said Sannar, a father of six, was shot several times, the Deseret News in Salt Lake City reported. A motive had not been determined.
