Qualcomm to Develop Technology for TerreStar

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

TerreStar Networks said it entered into an agreement with Qualcomm to develop integrated satellite-cellular communications technologies for mobile devices designed for government, public safety, enterprise and consumer users.

Though the deal, Qualcomm will integrate satellite and cellular technology with the development of a satellite protocol and including it in the firmware of select multi-mode baseband chips. Qualcomm also will support S-Band frequencies - spectrum where TerreStar will operate its service - in select RF processors.

As a result of the Qualcomm work, satellite connectivity can be enabled in conventional-sized, mass-market wireless handsets and devices, TerreStar said.

TerreStar said the agreement broadens its "existing development opportunities for advanced technologies and protocols that combine the ubiquity of a North American satellite footprint with the connectivity of terrestrial wireless networks across an all-IP broadband communications platform." TerreStar is working on a system that combines satellite infrastructure with terrestrial wireless capabilities
