A Mascouche, Que., man facing charges of criminal negligence after his eight-year-old daughter was injured in a snowmobile accident is free on bail.

Mascouche police said the 37-year-old father was released after posting bail of $1,000 at the Joliette, Que., courthouse Tuesday.

The man, who cannot be identified due to a court-ordered publication ban, has been ordered not to go near either his daughter or his ex-wife.

He also does not have the right to drink alcohol, has been ordered not to drive aside from driving to work and was given a 10 p.m. curfew.

He is due back in court in March.

The man was charged Monday with criminal negligence after police said the man took his daughter snowmobiling in a field in the middle of the night on Jan. 3. They were not wearing helmets when they collided with another snowmobile, police said.

Police said the father did not take the girl to Pierre Le Gardeur Hospital in Terrebonne until 5 p.m. that day, about 15 hours after the collision.

The child was transferred to a hospital in Montreal and admitted to intensive care with fractures to her skull and jaw and numerous cuts.

She was still in hospital Tuesday, but her life was not considered in danger.
