Record Growth for BSkyB

On Friday, British Sky Broadcasting, the U.K. satellite giant controlled by Rupert Murdoch's News Corp., said it netted 87,000 customers during its fiscal first quarter, the highest first quarter growth for the company in five years.

The additions took the company's customer count to 9.067 million.

BSkyB said its Sky Plus DVR product added 421,000 customers in the quarter, and that service is now available to more than 4 million homes. Also, the company said it saw record Sky Plus HD growth during the quarter, with 93,000 signing up for the service during the three-month period, taking the Sky Plus HD total to 591,000.

As for other services, Sky Broadband added 164,000 customers during the quarter, taking that count to 1.792 million. The Sky Talk voice offering netted 120,000, for a final tally of to 1.361 million.
