Report: Marlins shopping Dan Uggla
MIAMI, -- The Florida Marlins are actively seeking a trade for slugging second baseman Dan Uggla, MLB.com reported Saturday.
The Web site, citing multiple sources, said the Marlins have given up trying to sign Uggla to a new contract and are instead initiating calls to other teams seeking a trade for the all-star infielder.
FoxSports.com reported the Detroit Tigers are among those talking to the Marlins regarding the 30-year-old, who has turned down a four-year, $48 million offer.
Florida team officials are no longer confident they can sign Uggla, one of the game's best-hitting second basemen, MLB.com reported. He socked 33 homers and drove in 105 runs in 2010.
The team is expected to bring up a possible Uggla trade at the general managers' meetings set for next week.
