JERSEY CITY, NJ (WPIX) —
A Jersey City school that has a confirmed case of bedbugs says it can't fully exterminate until school is out of session.

The Jersey City Board of Education says the insect infestation was confined to the third floor of School 23 on Romaine Avenue, and that the school administration has had the floor disinfected. Until school lets out for the holidays on Thursday, however, the school cannot fumigate the entire facility. Instead, the school board says, they will disinfect areas on a spot basis as needed.

Parent George Wendt says his 13-year-old son spotted the bloodsucking bugs in his classroom a couple of weeks ago and told the principal right away. His son was moved to another classroom, but that did not satisfy the student or his father.

"I've kept him at home," Mr. Wendt told PIX 11 News. "I got his homework assignments for the week." Wendt says his son will work from home until the problem is resolved.
