A 33-year-old Toronto man is in custody in connection with a sexual assault investigation that began in May at a public school in Scarborough.
Toronto Police said the man was a youth program co-coordinator with an after-school program based at Joseph Brant Senior Public School.
Police allege he sexually assaulted one student while at the school.
Louis McRae of Toronto is due in court on Friday to face three counts of sexual assault, two counts of sexual interference as well as an invitation to sexual touching.
Police are providing few details, but believe there may be more victims.
"He befriended the victim, at which time a relationship was built," said Toronto Police spokesman Tony Vella. "It's alleged that he sexually assaulted one of his students at the school."
Vella said the victim told her parents and sister, and then made a complaint to police.
But this isn't the first time McRae has had legal problems. Three years ago he was charged with sexual exploitation and two counts of assault. However, he signed a peace bond and the case was closed.
The school's principal, David LaRochelle, said in a letter to parents that school employees are co-operating with police in the investigation.
"While it is important to remember that laying criminal charges does not constitute guilt, and that a person is innocent until proven guilty in a court of law, we also cannot and do not take these allegations lightly," he said in a letter to parents.
The school has called a meeting for parents on June 14.
A woman who did not want her name used said she's surprised by the allegations.
"My kids always talk to him. He's very good. Always helping at playground, homework."
