SEATTLE (AP) — The Seattle police Office of Professional Accountability is investigating an officer seen on video punching a young woman in the face.
Deputy Chief Nick Metz told a news conference Tuesday the department is withholding judgment until the investigation is complete.
Metz also said two women who were stopped for jaywalking bear much of the responsibility for Monday's incident for not cooperating and resisting arrest.
The incident was captured on cell phone video.
The Seattle Urban League and NAACP also held a news conference Tuesday, and Urban League CEO James Kelly called the punch an overreaction that recalled two officers kicking a Hispanic suspect in an April 17 incident caught on video
