Sex shop owner throws in towel
SURREY, British Columbia, (UPI) -- The owner of a sex novelty ship in British Columbia says he'll give up in his fight with city officials, who pulled his license after he opened a live-sex show.
Tony Perry, who owns eight other sex novelty shops around Vancouver, British Columbia, accused city officials of trying to drive him from a location in Surrey because his shop stands near where plans call for construction of a new City Hall. Perry has operated the shop at that location for 25 years but his license was revoked in March after he opened the live-sex theater adjacent to the sex novelty store, the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. reported.
The city passed a measure in April prohibiting sex novelty shops in Surrey and Mayor Dianne Watts said the city, legally, is "on good, solid ground." Watts also said she doesn't think "it's appropriate to have live sex acts in a theater in the city."
Perry says he's not inclined to pursue the matter in court even though he has received legal advice that he could win a legal challenge.
"But you know, it could be a hollow victory," he said. "It could take you years. You know they'll stall you."
