VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - Without warning, a local company, Energy Savings Exteriors, shut down. Now, employees who are due paychecks and customers who are due service are left out in the cold.

Steve Pizzella, the president and owner of ESE, said the company has been in business for nearly 30 years doing home improvement work and he had no choice but to close up shop because of the struggling economy. So, when his employees, about 15 of them, showed up for work on Monday, Pizzella gave them the bad news.

"I told them we kept it going as long as we could and there was no way to keep it going anymore," Pizzella said.

Joan Noble has been a salesperson at ESE for nearly two years and says she is terrified now. "I can lose my house, my car, everything I own at this point."

"It's a very sad time for everybody," said Pizzella. It's a sad time also for all those customers Pizzella admitted would not be getting the service and products they are due.

Noble said, "The customers either paid cash or did it through financing, but they are not getting their services." Noble said some customers have been waiting for service for months. She said the owner has had his salespeople selling to new customers as late as just a few days ago.

Noble said the owner is going to file bankruptcy. Pizzella said he is hoping to find a way to pay his employees.
