Terrorist group in Pakistan flood aid

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan, Among the groups aiding victims of monsoon flooding in Pakistan is the militant group that killed 166 people in the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks, officials say.

In what is apparently an effort to win the hearts and minds of 3 million people displaced by the country's worst flood in 80 years, Lashkar-e-Toiba and its charitable wing Flah-I-Insaniat have set up relief camps in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, The Daily Telegraph reported Thursday.

Lashkar-e-Toiba, considered a global terrorist group, is providing shelter, food and medical assistance to more than 20,000 people a day, the group's vice chairman said.

It was the duty of all Muslims to help the estimated 3 million people affected by the floods, Mian Mohammed Adil said, but Western "infidel" aid workers had no business in the worst-hit areas.

Western diplomats in the capital Islamabad said they were concerned at reports of Lashkar-e-Toiba militants distributing drinking water at camps featuring prominent display of the group's flags and banners.

"There are a couple of places like that and it's a concern," said one.
