VANDALIA, Mich. - A 3-year-old boy died Saturday morning after he was kicked by a horse in Cass County.

Petr M. Klembara was kicked in the head while working with the horse at his home at around 10:22 a.m.

Family members, including some adults, were working with Petr, although it's unclear what they were doing.

The 3-year-old was taken to Three Rivers Hospital by ambulance. Investigators said he died there.

The Cass County Sheriff's Department told 24 Hour News 8 the incident was an accident. Although officers are not requesting criminal charges, the case will be forwarded to the prosecutor's office for review.

This is the second accidental death of a child that Cass County officers have investigated in less than a week.

Tuesday, a Dowagiac boy died after falling through the ice on Big Twin Lake .

"It's not easy," said Sgt. Philip Esarey, of the Cass County Sheriff's Office. "A lot of the officers have kids about the same age, so it's easy to relate."

The horse involved in Saturday's incident was left at the family's home. Esarey was not aware of any plans to remove the horse.

"It's the second kid in less than a week for us," Esarey said. "You just go home and give your kids a hug and kiss and thank God."
