U.S. markets make slight gains
NEW YORK, (UPI) -- U.S. stock markets were flat Friday after the Census Bureau said wholesale trade inventories fell 0.3 percent in May.
Wholesale sales of durable goods rose 0.5 percent in May compared to April. Non-durable goods sales on the wholesale side fell 1 percent.
In early afternoon trading, the Dow Jones industrial average added 14.53 points or 0.14 percent to 10,153.52. The Standard & Poor's 500 index rose 2.84 or 0.27 percent to 1,073.09. The Nasdaq composite index added 8.08 or 0.37 percent to 2,183.48.
The benchmark 10-year Treasury fell 6/32 to yield 3.06 percent.
The euro fell to $1.2644 from Thursday's $1.2692. Against the yen, the dollar rose to 88.535 yen from Thursday's 88.39 yen.
In Japan, the Nikkei 225 index added 0.52 percent, 49.58, to 9,585.32.
In Britain, the FTSE 100 index added 0.54 percent, 27.49, to 5,132.94.
