ViaSat and KVH, MotoSAT and Balaton
Two key satellite-related technology deals were announced Tuesday.
For starters, ViaSat signed a 10-year agreement with KVH Industries to establish a global Ku-Band mobile broadband network using ViaSat's ArcLight technology. The agreement includes an initial purchase by KVH of three ArcLight hubs with options for more hubs as the network expands, the companies said.
The satellite-based platform will serve business jets, maritime vessels and ground vehicles in North America, the Caribbean, the North Atlantic and Europe. ViaSat said it will provide network operation services, manage satellite access and roaming for the ViaSat hubs, and it also will share in the service revenues.
As for the second deal, MotoSAT, a provider of mobile and automated satellite antenna solutions, agreed to an acquisition by Balaton Group, an international private equity firm based in Toronto. The acquisition is set to close in the fall. Financial terms were not disclosed.
