Whitaker to star in 'Minds' spin-off
NEW YORK, (UPI) -- Oscar-winning actor Forest Whitaker has signed on to star in an as-yet-untitled spin-off of the TV drama "Criminal Minds," CBS said in New York this week.
Whitaker, whose films include "The Last King of Scotland," "Bird," "Good Morning Vietnam," "The Crying Game," "Ghost Dog," and "Phenomenon," previously had a recurring role on the TV police drama "The Shield."
CBS said his new show will debut in the middle of the 2010-11 season.
A network synopsis said the program is about an elite team of agents within the FBI's Behavioral Analysis Unit who use unconventional methods of investigation and aggressive tactics to capture the most nefarious criminals in the United States. The series will co-star Matt Ryan, Michael Kelly and Beau Garrett.
