I have a gateway with an Integrated Intel 82845G Graphics Controller.Processor:x86Processor Speed:1800 MHZI just want to upgrade to something in the ATI Radeon series. I could also go with NVIDIA GeForce Series or something in the Intel Extreme Graphics Series GMA 950 or higher. What will work for me?

mmm Model number of your gateway would be nice. What you need to do is open your case...and look at the first slot at the back end of the PC...If they are all white it will be PCI. If it's a brownish color it's more than likely AGP. If it's black, its probably PCI-E.You need to buy a card that will fit what slot your pc has...

Yes, check if you have PCI,AGP or PCI-e. Also, be aware of PSU requirements, the space inside your tower (you may have to remove adjacent cards like a modem/sound card) and if you have sufficient cooling...Almost all modern graphics cards are PCI-e and if you want to play todays games you need to have a PCI-e slot. If not, you could buy a new motherboard (I suggest an SLI ready) but that is not really worth the hassle if you don't know what you are doing or don't want the hassle. Instead invest in a new PC. And a side note, some games require a dual core processor (Assasins creed comes to mind) and all games will take up memory-So you will need to have sufficient RAM to prevent your computer from lagging outside of the game..

Most Intel 845G motherboards had AGP graphics interface slots. Viper ATI Radeon HD 2600 AGP 256MB GDDR2 Video Cardhttp://www.pcconnection.com/IPA/Shop/Product/Detail.htm?sku=8292685&srccode=cii_9324560&cpncode=18-18876315-2A 400 Watt or greater power supply recommendedIntel Extreme Graphics Series GMA 950 is a chip built into a motherboard, not a graphics card.
