I have a speedtouch wireless router but do not have a wireless adapter for the computer?

i want to go wireless on the xbox by getting a wireless network adapter, will it still work? Also is my wireless router not good enough to get a strong signal?p.s.If i get wireless all set up, when i go online on the xbox, will it cut off the internet on the computer?
