There were only minor injuries following a spectacular car crash in St. John's Saturday morning.

A spokesperson for the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary said a car, driven by an elderly woman, crashed into the living room of a home on Mundy Pond Road.

The woman, the only occupant of the vehicle, was taken to hospital with what police described as non-life threatening injuries.

There were four people in the house but none of them were near where the car crashed and all escaped uninjured.

Onlookers said the woman was travelling at a high rate of speed and hit a grassy incline at the edge of a parking lot before hurtling toward the home.

Police are still investigating the cause of the accident.
