Bacsinszky cruises to Gastein semifinals

BAD GASTEIN, Austria, Second-seeded Timea Bacsinszky won her first seven games Friday en route to a quarterfinals win at the Gastein Ladies tennis tournament in Austria.

Bacsinszky raced past Sandra Zahlavova 6-0, 6-4 in 70 minutes. She had four service breaks before Zahlavova won a game and allowed Zahlavova only three points on serve in the first set.

Yvonne Meusburger ousted No. 8-seeded Anastasija Sevastova 7-5, 6-4 and earned a semifinals berth against Bacsinszky. Meusburger won four of the five break-point situations she forced on Sevastova.

Saturday's other semifinal will send Alize Cornet against Julia Goerges.

Goerges survived a 2-hour, 42-minute marathon against Anastasia Pivovarova, winning 6-4, 6-7 (4-7), 6-4. Cornet played nearly as long before finishing a 6-2, 6-7 (5-7), 6-1 victory over Patricia Mayr.

The semifinal winners will advance to tournament title match Sunday, with a first-place check for $37,000 at stake.
