According to reports from the field, DIRECTV has stopped activating receivers without Receiver ID (RID) numbers and some retailers are considerably less than pleased.
Notes one, "In the past week my phone has been ringing off the hook with customers asking what to do about their RV, yacht and custom home theater needs when they need a replacement. Most RV customers using low-speed data-ports will be forced not only to buy a new model receiver from DIRECTV but also to buy a new in-motion satellite dish at a cost of $900.00 to $4000.00."
A DIRECTV spokesperson tells SkyREPORT that the company has indeed stopped activating the receivers. However, he says, "This only affects new activations, not reactivating boxes already on the account – for example, a box that was deactivated and later reactivated for troubleshooting purposes, would still be able to be activated."
