For the ninth year in a row, the University of Michigan's American Customer Satisfaction Index (ACSI) has named DIRECTV the nation's number one satellite TV provider in terms of overall customer happiness, beating out DISH Network by seven points.
According to ACSI, DIRECTV also outperformed all of the cable companies surveyed with an overall index score of 71, up three points from last year. The DBS providers scored five points higher than Cox, 12 points higher than Comcast and Time Warner Cable and 20 points higher than Charter.
Things aren't so good for the pay TV industry overall, which fell 2 percent in the last year to 63. For comparison, that puts TV providers behind airlines, hotels, power companies and fast food restaurants in terms of customer satisfaction. In addition to customer loyalty, the ACSI survey asks subscribers about issues like perceived quality, perceived value and expectations
