Do you need to install drivers after installing Windows 7?

I'm currently running Windows XP on my laptop, but I want to upgrade to Windows 7. I remember that when I was installing XP there was a disk for the OS and another disk for the drivers. With Windows 7 they only give me one disk. Does this mean the drivers and the OS will be installed from this one disk also or do I need to download the drivers from the internet?

You might have to download drivers for a piece of hardware. It would be impossible to include all the drivers for all the different hardware there is on one disk!

Windows 7 contains basic drivers for most of your devices and may have some available for download through windows updates but you may still need to visit a website to get the rest.

Most of the drivers you need are going to be included in the Windows 7 installation. If there is a driver missing afterwards you're going to have to go to the manufacturer's web site for that device.

I m running windows 7 on my laptop & windows vista on desktop and for both of them i had XP compatible drivers, they both got installed without any problem.Try thisSelect ur drivers setup file, eg, setup.exe, right-click on it(in windows 7) and go to properties.Go to compatibility tan and check on "Run as" box and select windows xp, and then run the file. This works for any installer or any program that was actually meant for older os than windows 7.One more thing, u can download updated drivers if ur providers has released any updated drivers for 7 or vista.nVIDIA, ati, etc provide a good support but intel doesnt support much with driver releases. so check if ur provider has released any for ur os.Best of luck.

If you can’t find the right drivers manually I would recommend just getting a software program that can do it for you. There is a program I use which will find drivers for just about all hardware devices. The best part is it takes a snapshot of your system specifications and matches the right driver to go with it.
