Family dispute leaves 3 dead, 1 arrested

ST. PAUL, Minn., A third shooting victim of a family dispute that turned violent in St. Paul, Minn., died Saturday and a fourth family member was hospitalized, authorities said.

A fifth family member, Patrick McHugh, 55, was in custody, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reported.

The shootings took place about 9 p.m. Friday at the home where McHugh lives with his elderly mother, the newspaper said. McHugh was arrested nearby following a short vehicle pursuit and is expected to be charged Monday.

Two women were dead at the scene, while a man died at Regions Hospital Saturday and the surviving family member, a woman, was in stable condition, the St. Paul Pioneer Press reported.

Authorities had not released the victims' names but neighbors told the Star Tribune the mother, Kathleen McHugh, 80, was taken alive from the residence to an ambulance. A police spokesman told the Pioneer Press Kathleen McHugh was not injured.

Police said the victims were related to the McHughs either by blood or marriage.

Neighbors told the newspaper Patrick McHugh had been involved in previous family disputes.

It wasn't reported what disagreement may have led to the shootings.
