Garnett: Didn't disrespect cancer patients

BOSTON, -- Boston Celtics forward Kevin Garnett says he never made insensitive comments about cancer patients as claimed by Detroit forward Charlie Villanueva.
Garnett released a statement Wednesday disputing claims made by Villanueva following the Celtics' 109-86 victory over the Pistons Tuesday that Garnett had called him "a cancer patient" during the contest, the Boston Herald reported.
Villanueva took to his Twitter account after game, posting that Garnett "called me a cancer patient, I'm pissed because, u know how many people died from cancer, and he's tossing it like it's a joke."
Villanueva suffers from alopecia universalis, a skin disease characterized by hair loss on the scalp and elsewhere on the body, the newspaper said.
Garnett, however, said that there was a "major miscommunication" about what he had told him.
"My comment to Charlie Villanueva was in fact, 'You are cancerous to your team and our league,'" Garnett said. "I would never be insensitive to the brave struggle that cancer patients endure. I have lost loved ones to this deadly disease and have a family member currently undergoing treatment."
