how much faster would a computer be with multitasking with a AMD Phenom x 4 965 with 8 Gigs RAM and windows 7 be than a AMD Athlon 64 3200 2.0gz with 2 gigs RAM and Windows XP ?

The newer PC with a Phenom II X4 965 and 8GB Ram will blow away the Athlon 64. The athlon is only has one Processor on it's die and it's clocked @ 2.0GHz. Not only is the Phenom II X4 965 clocked @ 3.4GHz, but it also has 4 Processors on it's die. I would give a estimate that the new CPU performs 4x better than the Athlon.

The Athlon 64 would have limited capacity at multi tasking, whereas a quad core like you've mentioned is built for multi tasking. Not only faster it may be capable of doing stuff a 2.0gz athlon can't. Anywhere from two to ten times faster.

multitasking would be like night and day....your comparing a Porsche to a Volkswagen....Hard to say how much faster but I'm definitely sure the windows 7 pc would out do the xp pc with out breaking a sweat.......Scott
