i am looking for a computer that needs a good video card and what i want it for recommends a ATI radeon 9600 or above. So can someone please clear up whether it is better or not for me thank you.

Yes its even better than a 9600. The ATI 5650 has more technology intigrated into it than the 9600. I reccommend the 5650, whether it maybe for playing video games decoding movies, or watching movies. I reccomend it 100%

A Radeon 9600 is an AGP video card unless you tripped over the rarity of a PCI card. Most integrated chips these days will offer better performance than this artifact. I have one. I still use it on a 4th ranked back up machine sitting in the closet. It will do what I need it to. It does flash games and most casual games like "Audiosurf"or "Zombie Bowl-O-Rama". It most certainly do much 'heavy gaming'. I like it because it just works. Comparing the 9600 to a 5650 is somewhat like comparing a tricycle to a Harley-Davidson motorcycle. Both have similar elements and will do the same basic things. One will cost a small amount and the other will cost much more. One will do simple baisc tasks, the other will much more.Buy the 5650 or even the 5670 as there is little to no reason to go with the lesser of two mid-range cards. Either way you will be good to go.Good luck.

to dik b, it's not comparing a tricycle to a harley davidson... it's like comparing a ford model T to a new lexus:)the 9600 was good when it was new... back in the stone age. though i'd say it would be at least 3x weaker than even the mid range 5650 nowadays:)(had one, was rebranded radeon x1050.. I GOT TRICKED, but upgraded last year to an excellent hd 4670)
