Leno jokes about O'Brien's Emmy nod

LOS ANGELES, (UPI) -- Conan O'Brien's Emmy Award nomination was well-noted on "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" in Los Angeles Thursday.

O'Brien briefly served as host of "Tonight" last year after NBC pushed Leno out of the spot. When O'Brien didn't work out, the network reinstated Leno.

O'Brien, who is heading to TBS to start up a new late-night chat show, earned and Emmy Award nod Thursday for his brief tenure on "Tonight."

"The Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien" will compete for the Emmy for outstanding variety, music or comedy series with "The Colbert Report," "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart," "Real Time with Bill Maher" and "Saturday Night Live."

"The big show business news is that the Emmy nominations were announced today," TVGuide.com reported Leno joked during his monologue Thursday night. "The good news: 'The Tonight Show' got four nominations! The bad news: I didn't get one of them. ... That's always been my motto, 'Remember there's no 'me' in Emmy....' I guess (David) Letterman and I will be watching the Emmys at Oprah (Winfrey's) house this year."

Letterman, like Leno, did not receive an Emmy nomination for outstanding host.
