Man arrested after bus fight over pants
MADISON, Wis., (UPI) -- Police in the Wisconsin capital said they arrested a Metro bus passenger who allegedly got into a shouting match with the driver over his saggy pants.
Madison police said Larry Wilks, 20, boarded the bus June 11 on Tokay Boulevard and the 45-year-old driver, who was not named, asked him to pull up his pants because his underwear and buttocks were visible to other passengers, including several senior citizens, The (Madison) Capital Times reported Friday.
"Wilks and three other unidentified subjects began to verbally attack the 45-year-old bus driver," police spokesman Howard Payne said. "He said 'You can't tell me what to do, and you better drive this bus.'"
Payne said the driver called police when the verbal attacks did not cease and Wilks told the responding officer he "didn't have to do anything" before allegedly scuffling with the officer.
The officer called for backup when a group of people apparently angered by the arrest formed a circle around the officer and Wilks.
"After the scene was calmed, Wilks stated he was not afraid to go to jail, and that proved to be directly in line with the officer's decision," Payne said.
Wilks was arrested on suspicion of disorderly conduct, criminal damage to property and resisting arrest.
