A man is dead after being hit by a semi-truck on Highway 11 near Girvin, Sask.

The man, who was a pedestrian, was struck by the northbound truck at around 3:20 a.m. CST Friday, the RCMP said.

It's believed the man was in his 20s or 30s. His name and home community haven't been released. The RCMP said they're trying to notify his family.

The northbound lane of the highway, which is the main route between Regina and Saskatoon, was closed for several hours while RCMP accident reconstructionists and the coroner investigated.

To keep northbound traffic moving during the road closure, police re-routed vehicles off the highway and through Girvin, which is about 130 kilometres northwest of Regina.

Both lanes we re-opened by 11 a.m.
