MLB: LA Dodgers 4, Detroit 1
LOS ANGELES, May 22 (UPI) -- Chad Billingsley allowed four hits over seven innings Friday and the Los Angeles Dodgers stayed hot with a 4-1 victory over Detroit.
Los Angeles was in last place in the National League West on April 29, but the Dodgers have won 16 of their last 20 games to vault into contention.
Billingsley (5-2) struck out five and allowed a lone run to win his third straight start. Jonathan Broxton struck out the side on 14 pitches in the ninth for his ninth save.
Detroit produced its only run in the first and held the lead into the fourth. The Dodgers loaded the bases in that inning and scored the tying run when Dontrelle Willis (1-3) hit Nick Green with a pitch.
A wild pitch by Willis in the fifth allowed Jamey Carroll to score from third and Manny Ramirez drove in another run in the inning with an infield single.
The final Los Angeles run came in on a single by A.J. Ellis in the sixth.
