Toronto police and the Canadian Food Inspection Agency are investigating after a man found a sewing needle inside a package of meat.
It happened earlier this month, but police didn't notify the inspection agency until Saturday afternoon, said Marilyn Taylor, an agency spokeswoman.
The food was purchased online through GroceryGateway.com, and it came from a Longo's grocery store in Oakville.
The man who bought the meat said he noticed the needle just before he was about to cook it. It wasn't clear how the needle got there, Taylor said.
So far, she said, this appears to be an isolated incident, but a recall may be issued if similar cases pop up.
Taylor said food inspection workers will look at all points of production for the meat, including retail, packaging and delivery.
