Ottawa police drop sex assault investigation

Ottawa police closed an investigation Tuesday into an alleged daytime sexual assault on a 16-year-old girl in Barrhaven earlier this month.

Police said details of the Jan. 18 attack could not be substantiated, and as a result the case had been dropped.

Ottawa police said they were told the victim was forced into an older, red SUV on Tartan Drive, and was sexually assaulted before being dropped off at the Fallowfield Road Park and Ride lot.

Police said at the time it was believed the male suspect brandished a handgun during the assault.

The girl was hospitalized, but not seriously injured.
