Retrans: Gray Expects Big 2009, Young Comments on DISH
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
On Monday, Gray Television said it reached preliminary retransmission consent agreements with 20 large cable operators covering about 2.4 million in-market cable subscribers.
In addition, the broadcaster said it reached similar agreements with smaller cable operators. The agreements with the small and large MSOs are subject to the completion and execution of definitive agreements, Gray said.
Along with other agreements completed earlier this year, Gray said the deals could provide about $8.4 million in incremental retransmission consent revenue during 2009. Completed agreements with small cable operators could further increase that total, the company said.
Gray said it anticipates total retransmission consent revenues will total $3 million in 2008.
Earlier this year, Gray reached definitive retrans agreements with DISH Network and Cox covering about 1.2 million subscribers.
Meanwhile, Young Broadcasting confirmed that it signed a new retransmission consent agreement with DISH Network covering its 10 stations. "We are pleased to have reached a mutually acceptable retransmission consent agreement with DISH Network. The agreement is consistent with our retransmission consent goals," said Vincent Young, chairman and CEO of the broadcaster.
