Satellite Capacity Shortages? And India DTH
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Even with the global economic downturn, Euroconsult and The London Satellite Exchange said satellite fill rates remain extremely high for certain regions, especially the Middle East and North Africa, where satellite capacity shortages are surfacing. “Capacity shortages in these orbital positions - which are primarily used for video broadcast - clearly reflect the growth in these regions,” the firms stated in a report --- In recently-released research, NSR projected that the DTH market in India could keep growing in the coming years. With a subscriber base of 7 million and growth expected to be 20 percent year-on-year, “it is not surprising there are already five DTH operators vying for a piece of this action with a sixth waiting in the wings,” the firm said. The projected surge in demand for digital TV distribution also is expected to spill over into C-Band with Headend-in-the-Sky platforms for digital cable distribution, NSR said.
