Police arrested a man following an armed robbery at a convenience store in the east of St. John's on Sunday night.

The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary said the suspect, 22, used a blade from a pair of scissors as a weapon in the crime. He had his face partially concealed by a scarf.

The robbery at Marie's Mini-Mart on Gleneyre Street, in the Wedgewood Park neighbourhood, happened just after 8 p.m.

The robber escaped with cash and cigarettes. Police said they caught nearby, in the Prim Place area, a short time later.
