The family of slain Toronto police officer Ryan Russell released a statement on Thursday afternoon thanking the public and the force for their "outpouring of love and support, thoughts and prayers."
Russell's family said they want to "thank all members of the Toronto Police Service, the Toronto Police Association and all our friends, family and all the exceptional members of the public for their outpouring of love and support, thoughts and prayers."
"Every single member of Ryan's family is touched," the statement said. "The warm, heartfelt comments bring much comfort to our hearts."
A full police funeral will take place Tuesday afternoon at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre on Front Street West.
Visitations for Russell will be held on Sunday and Monday at the Jerret Funeral Home on Yonge Street in Thornhill.
Russell, 35, died when he was struck while trying to stop a stolen snowplow truck that was being driven erratically through downtown Toronto early Wednesday morning.
He was knocked to the ground and suffered fatal head injuries.
Russell was married and the father of a two-year-old son.
Richard Kachkar, 44, has been charged with first-degree murder in Russell's death as well as two counts of attempted murder.
