Texas Counterfeiters Cop Software Piracy Pleas

Three Texas-based online software pirates pleaded guilty Friday in federal court to generating more than $1 million in sales of fake Adobe software over the internet.
The three, Thomas RushingIII , 24, Brian Rue, 29, and William Partridge, 24, sold the software on valuesoftwaresales.com, allsoftwaredownload.com, esoftwarevalue.com and priceslashsoftware.com. According to court records, the trio generated about $1.2 million in sales over a 28-month period ending May, 2007.
The software included Adobe titles such as InDesign CS2, After Effects 7.0 Standard, Acrobat 8, Acrobat 3D, Framemaker 7 and Macromedia Studio 8.
The Justice Department said Friday that the guilty pleas bring to 32 the number of people convicted of selling counterfeited software online.
Adobe complained of the bogus sales to the Business Software Alliance, which alerted authorities. The authorities purchased the counterfeited products on the site before the trio was charged, according to court records.
Members of the trio, each facing three years in prison, are scheduled to be sentenced this December in U.S. District Court for the Western District Texas.
