Upset carries Larsson to Slovenia semis

PORTOROZ, Slovenia, Johanna Larsson posted a straight-set upset victory Friday and advanced to the semifinals of the Slovenia Open.

Larsson was on the court just 73 minutes in a 6-3, 6-2 rout of third-seeded Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova. She converted all four of the break-point chances she created.

She'll next face Ksenia Pervak, who took a 6-2, 2-6, 6-1 victory over Anastasiya Yakimova in a match that took more than 2 hours. Pervak piled up seven service breaks in the match.

Anna Chakvetadze also needed more than 2 hours to finish off a 2-6, 6-3, 7-5 win over sixth-seeded Vera Dushevina. Chakvetadze won nearly as many points (48-50) when Dushevina served as Dushevina did.

The losses by Pavlyuchenkova and Dushevina left No. 7 Polona Hercog the only seeded player left in the tournament. Hercog advanced on a 7-5, 7-5 win over Stefanie Voegele.

Hercog will play Chakvetadze in the other semifinal on Saturday.
