Using USB to Serial Adapter

Hi All,
I just brought home my new laptop (the old one died) and it has no serial port so I bought the usb to serial port connector. Itried to load the new program file but it doesn't recognize ot it gives me an error message....I have it set for com port one bythe way its a viewsat extreme.

Please on the bottom of your USB to serial cable, tell me any numbers exactly as you see them Also try a the usb drivers on this site. Welcome to Prolific

Also if you use one port on yer laptop keep useing that port because if you decide to plug it in another port it will reassign a new come port makeing your loading a pain in the butt...

There aren't any numbers on the cable but the packaging says USB to Serial port. It says connect the device with R232 interface like pda to your pc via usb port does that help any? Do you mean always plug it into the same usb port?

try to use comport #2 or #3 or #4 or even 5or6 mine works on #4 give it a try

Yes we can but there is no current file to make it work .. so you'll have to wait for new file...

thanks. The serial to usb adapter worked for a coolsat before but never viewsat. I was using and old laptop but lately it stopped loading my vsat plat lite. when the files come back which prolific driver should i hunt for?

I would try them all until you get one that works. I have loaded the plat and extreme with my laptops usb adapter. I bought a Nextar mini docking station.
