The age-old battle between Intel and AMD is resurrected every year as the two duke it out for control of your computer. Back in the day, when I was broke and into building PCs, I often opted for AMD because of budget restrictions. After I graduated, performance was the objective which, at the time, meant a switch to Intel was in order. I took a case by case approach to the debate between Intel and AMD, but many PC builders out there have fierce loyalties to one side or the other despite their ups and downs.

Episode IV: A New Hope:The AMD CPUs that came out during the same time as the Pentium-4 631 would be the Socket 939 "Venice"-core AMD Athlon64s. And the Venice-core A64s totally blew the P4 631 away, and AMD succeeded in grabbing an unprecedented 16% market share in 2005.Episode V: The Empire Strikes BackIntel struck back by coming out with the Core 2 Duo in 2006, which outclassed AMD in every way, especially since AMD is preoccupied with their merger with ATI when they should have been concentrating on pushing their 65nm stuff out the door.Episode VI: The Return of the AMD Jedi.. Unfortunately this is not going to happen for a long long time, and if Intel has anything to say about it, in a galaxy far far away. :-D
