If you are useing a dlink then both can connect with the wifi and as long as the shareing is set they both will be networked. If you really want to use a cable then you need a rj45 strait cable. Not a twisted one.
File shareing and harddrive shareing is possible once both are on the dlink either wired or wireless. Please note tho, wireless is only 54mb and is considerably slow in comparison to direct link. Eg, twisted cable, computer to computer.
