SkyFILES: A Few of My Favorite Things
by Michael Hopkins
It’s the holiday season. Given that the end of the year is a perfect time to reflect on the past 12 months, I figured it’s a good opportunity to share a few things I have recently encountered in the multiplatform world.
Here are five of those favorite things:
Indie 103 - This is a radio station in Los Angeles delivering what could be the best mix of alternative music in the nation. I listen to the broadcaster either through iTunes or via its Web site. This is great stuff ... even for a radio station. A lot of commercials, however. But it comes from sunny L.A., and it’s the best media resource for accessing new music and alternative classics.
The Verge - This is a Sirius XM stream featuring new and emerging rock bands from Canada. Who would’ve thought that satellite radio salvation would come from north of the border?
The Apple iPod Touch - It has lot of capacity for music, easy access to video and it has games. Any guesses on what I want to find under the Christmas tree in a few weeks?
RocknRolla - This is the new movie from British director Guy Ritchie (known for “Snatch” and “Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels”) that came out around Halloween. This is great stuff. In the months ahead, look for the film on pay-per-view/video-on-demand or on DVD rental. Too bad that Madonna thing didn’t work out for Guy.
Amazon Wish Lists - Everyone I know (and have to buy gifts for this holiday season) has one of these. I may never have to visit a mall again … ever. I like that idea.
