Are cpu sockets for an amd phenom ii x4 and x6 different?

I am thinking about buying an amd phenom II x4 830 desktop (I don't remember what the motherboard model was) and will probably look to upgrade the cpu if it's too slow. Is the socket that fits the amd x4 different than the one that fits the hexcore x6 1100T?

The sockets are the same, BUT, the bios of the motherboard of a prebuilt system, is most likely not going to allow for that upgrade. The manufactures website might have a bios update to make it possible, but it is a gamble you will take. Be better off reading up and watching you tube videos about how to build your own system and doing it right the first time...

The sockets are the same, but your motherboard needs to support it. Check the website of your motherboard vendor for the motherboard's specifications.
