Bean Town Prepares for DTV Day
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Capitol Hill lawmakers are getting into the digital TV transition action.
On Tuesday, all Boston market broadcast TV stations and cable providers, in conjunction with Edward Markey, the Massachusetts Democrat known for his work on the House Telecommunications and the Internet Subcommittee, will mark “DTV Day.” The effort also involves the Massachusetts Broadcasters Association.
DTV Day is a market-wide educational initiative designed to let viewers know whether or not they are ready for the digital TV transition, set for Feb. 17. The effort will include three, two-minute “virtual shutdown” readiness tests on all TV stations, similar to the soft tests conducted in other markets.
Also, stations will deliver daylong crawls on all outlets promoting digital TV information that will be available on a single station, Boston’s WGBH.
