Police suspect foul play after the discovery Friday of what they believe is the body of missing Nanaimo teen Tyeshia Jones.
The remains of a teenage woman were found shortly after 11 a.m. PT Friday in a wooded area off of Indian Road in Duncan, BC., RCMP spokesman Cpl. Kevin Day said in a release.
Day said the Vancouver Island Integrated Major Crime Unit and the RCMP Forensic Identification Section are actively investigating the scene.
Jones, 18, went missing Jan. 22.
"Police suspect the involvement of foul play," Day said after the discovery Friday.
He said Jones's family has been notified and that officers remain with the family pending official confirmation of identity.
As many as 100 police officers and volunteers have been involved in the search for the woman.
Jones was last seen after attending a party in Duncan.
She sent a text message at 3 a.m. on Jan 22, and had not been heard from since.
