PALM BAY --

A small brush fire has forced a Brevard County day care center to evacuate.

The fire started Friday morning in the area of Emerson Drive and Jupiter Boulevard, only about 50 yards from the Learning Tree Day Care.

Authorities said 15 to 20 children, along with staff, were evacuated from the day care at around 11:30 a.m. as a precaution.

The kids were taken to a nearby restaurant for pizza, and were allowed to return to the day care about an hour later.

Though the fire was small compared to most brush fires, it produced a lot smoke.

Traffic was diverted in the area for a short time. Officials said they were in the mop-up process around 1 p.m.

Investigators said fireworks may have started the fire.

Your Severe Weather Experts said the brush fire threat in Central Florida is high, because of low humidity throughout the region.
