A construction worker has been rescued after she was stuck on a crane that fell over at a construction site in downtown Montreal.
The accident happened around 3:15 p.m., close to Montreal's Old Forum near Ste-Catherine and Lambert-Closse Streets.
Eyewitnesses say they heard a loud boom as the crane toppled and got stuck over a large pit at the site.
It took more than 50 people, including firefighters and police officers, to free her, under the tense gaze of hundreds of pedestrians who crowded along the fenced-in site.
The fire department says she was unconscious when rescuers first reached her, but came to as they removed her from the accident scene.
Onlookers clapped when the woman was finally pulled out in a rescue harness, visibly grimacing.
Dion Williams was one of hundreds of people gathered on the street to watch the rescue.
"It looked like she might have been pinned and her head was cut open very badly, because it was bleeding, there was blood all over the place, it was very scary," he said.
There is no word on the woman's condition.
It's not clear why the crane toppled.
A condominium complex is being built at the site.
Health and safety board officials are investigating.
