A dispute involving young people at a Saskatchewan campground on the weekend ended in the stabbing of a 21-year-old man, the RCMP says.

The man, who's from Maymont, about 90 kilometres northwest of Saskatoon, is now in hospital recovering from stab wounds to his lower back.

The incident happened at the Glenburn Regional Park near Maymont at around 1:30 a.m. CST Monday.

"Numerous" young people who were at the park for the Victoria Day weekend got into a dispute, with alcohol involved, the RCMP said.

A number of police officers from Radisson and Warman had to be called in, the RCMP said.

The injured man was taken to Battlefords Union Hospital.

A Saskatoon man, 18, was arrested at the scene and charges are pending, the RCMP said.

The investigation continues. Police are asking witnesses to contact the Warman RCMP detachment.
Victoria Day violence happened before

The weekend incident near Maymont happened five years after the fatal stabbing of a 19-year-old Regina man at a similar event.

Misha William Pavelick died at a camping party near Regina Beach on the long weekend on May 22, 2006. No charges have ever been laid in the case.
