A man who kept police at bay for close to 24 hours in Mulgrave, N.S., was released Saturday without charges.
The armed standoff began on Thursday night and ended peacefully when the 47-year-old man surrendered to police on Friday night around 9 p.m.
About 40 people had to be evacuated from the area while police negotiated with the man, who had at least one gun in his home.
RCMP Const. Meredith Darrah said the man is no longer in police custody, but the investigation is continuing.
"If charges are warranted they will certainly be laid," said Darrah.
At the time of the standoff, police reported that the man involved the incident was intoxicated.
